Brock Wild Overpower Mariposa Lightning 7-1 to Start the Playoffs – February 19, 2017
On Sunday the Brock Wild hosted the Mariposa Lightning in the first of 4 round robin games.

In the first period the Lightning came on hard and took an early 1-0 lead on a nice shot that Mitchell got a piece of but found its way into the net.

But our boys kept working hard with several close chances. Dewsbury won some great battles in the offensive zone while Dowswell did a great job of keeping the puck in their zone several times throughout the period.

Benge also had a great scoring chance but was tripped up inside the Mariposa zone after some brilliant stick handling. Giguere also made some very nice rushes while Parry did a solid job of firing the puck out of our own end.

Late in the period, the hard work finally paid off as Oke would finally put one past the Lightning goalie to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the 2nd.

The second started out pretty even as both sides exchanged quality scoring chances. Mitchell made some great saves to keep the game tied at 1.

Midway through the period, the Wild would finally take over. Bugg, Wilson and Oke would crash the Mariposa net after some nice defensive work by Dowswell and eventually bang in the go ahead goal to make it 2-1. Bugg, Wilson and Oke would all pick up a point on the play.

A couple minutes later, the boys would add another off some great work by Haecker and Dowswell to keep the puck in the zone and a nifty pass from Parry to a wide open Dewsbury in front. Dewsbury would make a great spin move and backhand it off the post and in to give the boys a commanding 3-1 lead heading into the 3rd.

In the 3rd period the boys would score 4 more unanswered goals to secure the victory. Howell after suffering an equipment problem earlier in the game, would bounce back nicely with 2 goals in the period. Underwood also scored while Oke would add the final goal with just seconds left to end the game in a romp with a 7-1 victory.

Haecker was solid as expected all game long and even got loose on a breakaway in the 3rd but was robbed by the Mariposa netminder.

A fantastic start to the playoffs. Next up was the Woodville Hurricanes on their home turf Monday night.

Stay tuned!
