Tykes Put Scare Into One of Top Teams in the League!
On Thursday night the Wild hosted one of the top teams in the league, the Woodville Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes came out strong early getting a few good chances but were denied by Wild goalie, Blake Brock.

The Wild checked ferociously in the 1st battling hard along the boards and getting pucks out of our end while also creating some nice chances in the Woodville zone.

Late in the period the Wild would strike first as Stewart layed a beautiful pass over to Smith who would redirect it into the Woodville net as the Wild would take a 1-0 lead!

Despite some quality chances by Woodville, the Wild held on strong to carry a 1-0 lead into the 2nd period.

In the 2nd the Wild continued to battle hard forcing the Hurricanes to step up their game. But the Hurrcianes would strike midway through the 2nd on a rebound in front of the net after a sensational save by Brock to tie the game up at 1.

2 minutes later the Hurricanes would get a lucky break as a shot would bounce off 3 players and bounce just over the shoulder of Brock to give the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead late in the period. The Hurricanes would get yet another lucky bounce 1 minute later right off the face-off on a shot that once again bounced off a few pairs of skates to find the back of the net for a 3-1 lead.

I can tell you that given how hard the Wild were battling them, that 3rd goal definitely brought on a huge sigh of relief for the Hurricanes and their fans as Wild really had them on the ropes up to that point.

The 3rd period was a back and forth battle with both teams exchanging scoring chances at each end. The Woodville net-minder made some key saves while Brock was equally impressive in the Wild net.

Midway through the 3rd the Hurricanes would get yet another lucky bounce to take a 4-1 lead just as the Wild seemed to be on the verge of getting one of their own.

Late in the period the Hurricanes would add one more to hand the Wild a 5-1 loss.

The end score definitely did not reflect how close this game really was.

The Wild played a solid game from start to finish and truly had the Hurricanes worried for much of the game.

Brock Blake was a beast in goal making several nice saves to keep the game within reach.

Our defense of Malcolm, Kirkos, Lynch and Davidson were rock solid all game battling hard along the boards and in front of the net to clear the zone and get the puck out of our end.

Our forwards were feisty all night winning battles and showing some great hussle.

Pearce, Stewart and Smith all had some great scoring chances and lead the Wild attack with some excellent rushes into the Hurricanes zone.

Payne and Benge provided real solid back-checking to dig the puck loose and shoot it out of the Wild zone, creating some nice scoring chances the other way.

Cresanto, Parry, Giles and Slama were ferocious with their hard fore-checking winning several nice battles at both ends of the rink.

Colin Lynch was awarded the Ferell player of the game as he showed great hussle all game long winning battles and making nice outlet plays from our zone.

Unfortunately, the result on the scoreboard showed a 5-1 loss but this game was a lot closer than the score showed. Everyone can be very proud of the grit, heart, determination and hard work they displayed on each and every shift. I know the coaches are very proud.

The improvements we have seen over the past few games have been phenomenal. Keep on playing like we are and we will certainly start putting up some “W”’s.

Next up is the Manvers Mustangs on Saturday at 12:00 in Manvers. Parry will get the start in goal. Let’s keep working hard as we go for our first Win!!
