Wild Weekend for Tykes! Play Great in Tough Losses to 2 of Top Teams in the League!
It was another Wild weekend for the Brock Wild as they took to the road for 2 very tough contests against 2 of the top teams in the league.

On Saturday the Wild travelled to Ops to take on the always tough Kawartha Coyotes. The Wild were missing 3 of our key members (Malcolm, Pearce and Davidson) in this one so we knew that we would be in for a tough battle.

The Wild battled hard in the first period playing some of the best hockey we have seen all year long as we held the Coyotes to just 2 goals in the 1st period while also getting one of our own on a nice rush by Smith.

Blake Brock made some spectacular saves to keep the score close while our defense did a great job of stopping the Coyotes in their tracks.

In the second the score remained close until late in the period when the Coyotes would get 3 quick ones past Brock to take a 5-1 lead going into the final period.

The Wild would continue to battle hard into the 3rd period as fatigue and extreme cold would set in allowing the Coyotes to add 6 more goals before the end of the period handing our Wild a tough 11-1 loss.

The score may have showed 11-1 but I can tell you that this was by far the closest 11-1 game I have ever seen as our players battled hard every shift and did a lot of great things both offensively and defensively on every shift.

Every player played so good in this one that the coaches could not come up with just 1 player to award the Ferell Player of the game. As a result Rhys Benge, Nathan Giles, Colin Lynch, Kael Creasanto, Mason Stewart, Ethan Kirkos, Kaiden Smith, Karsyn Payne, Camden Slama, Blake Brock and Eric Parry would all share the player of the game honors as every one of them stepped up big time in another great effort.

The next day the Wild were right back at it this time with yet another tough opponent in the Sturgeon Thunder. The Wild welcomed back John Malcolm, Borden Davidson and Bradley Pearce but were once again down a man as Colin Lynch was unable to attend.

Sturgeon was the number 1 team in the league coming into this one and had scored over 10 goals per game but the Wild were up for the challenge!

In the first period the Wild held their own very well getting several chances on goal and making some great defensive plays to keep the Thunder on their toes.

The Thunder would strike first just 30 seconds in on a rebound to secure an early 1-0 lead. But the Wild came right back just 1 minute later on a beauty goal by Slama who went five-hole after taking a nice feed from Pearce.

The Wild would continue to battle hard to stop the Thunder attack as they would hold the number one offense in the league to just 3 goals after 1 period of play.

In the 2nd period the Thunder would start to pull away with some nice 2nd effort goals as they would pad their lead to 8-1 after 2 periods.

But the Wild did not give up as they continued to battle. Parry made several nice saves and the defense made some excellent stops to hold the Thunder to just 1 goal in the 3rd enroute to a tough 9-1 loss.

Every player worked hard every shift and should be very proud of how well we played against the top team in the league as we lowered their league leading goals per game average and pushed them hard the whole game.

Camden Slama was awarded the Ferell Player of the game.

Great work by everyone! Next up was another tough battle against the Lindsay Teal on Thursday night. Stay tuned.
