Wild and Coyotes Call it a Draw
In our first game in 15 days, as we appeared a little rusty due to a lack of competitive game action. We came out of the gate in the first a little slow and allowed the Coyotes to open the scoring just 2 minutes in. That seemed to wake up the Wild as we dominated to play for the rest of the first period. Shift after shift, we created several chances, but were just unable to convert one to tie the game.
The second period started right where the first left off, with wave after wave of Brock Wild chances. Finally at the 2 1/2 minute mark, Marcus Howell let go a low hard blast from the slot that beat the Coyotes net minder right along the ice through the five hole to tie the game. Aron Barnett picked up the lone assist. And the Wild kept digging, shift after shift. While killing a penalty (a bad call by the ref), Charlie Dowswell made a defensive zone clearing that Travis Yake grabbed and darted up the ice. After beating a couple of Coyote defenders, he was in alone. After being stopped on his deke attempt, Travis kept after the loose puck like a bulldog digging for a bone, burying the loose puck for a short-handed marker and a 2-1 Brock lead.
The lead was short-lived as just 46 seconds later, the Coyotes capitalized one of the few chances they had had all game to tie it at 2-2.
Although there were many more opportunities in the third period (the majority by the Wild), neither team was able to break the deadlock. Game over - a 2-2 tie.
Other players having strong performances were, Campbell Ellis, Dax Giguere on forward and Charlie Dowswell, Kale Oldham and Colton Housser on defense.
Liam Flood had another great game stopping several Coyote shots and a breakaway or 2.
