Atom Reds Win Silver at Norwood Tournament! Lose Final Heartbreaker in OT!
The Brock Wild travelled to Norwood this past weekend and came out with an impressive 4-0-1 record to finish the tournament as Silver medalists!

In the first game the Wild took on the Norwood Hornets Black squad and came out on fire. The Wild controlled this game from the opening face off putting lots of pressure on the Hornets defense early.

The hard work would pay off as Adomeit would get the Wild on the board just 2 minutes in taking a nice feed from Totton and burying it for an early 1-0 lead.

The Hornets would get a lucky break just 20 seconds later as they would get a shot off that was originally gloved by Pardy but had it bounce out of his glove and just over the line to tie the game at 1.

But the Wild came roaring back with a flurry in the Hornets end. With just over 5 minutes left in the period Marshall would fire a nice shot from the point that bounced off a couple bodies onto Parry’s stick would get off a nice shot in close. The Hornets goalie made a beauty save but Adomeit was right there to pound in the rebound and the Wild were once again ahead 2-1.

The Wild would continue to put the pressure on but the score would remain 2-1 heading into the 2nd period.

The Wild would continue to dominate in the 2nd and would strike just 30 seconds in as Mitchell would bang home a rebound after a series of nice passes to give the Wild a 3-1 lead.

Later in the period the Wild would be rewarded again this time on nice one timer by Payne off a nice feed from behind the net by Lo Presti as they Wild would surge to a 4-1 lead heading into the final period.

The 3rd was once again all Wild as our side continued to get lots of shots on the Hornet netminder. Then with just 1 minute left Adomeit would catch the Hornets netminder off guard with a long shot from behind the blue line to extend the Wild lead to 5-1.

The Hornets would try to get one back late and thought they did but the goal was disallowed as the whistle blew just moments before the puck crossed the line as the Wild sailed through with an impressive 5-1 victory.

In Game #2, the Wild would take on the Norwood Hornets White which was a much faster and much more skillful squad than the 1st one we faced but our Wild were up for the challenge.

The period would start off with both teams getting some nice chances and both goalies making some very nice saves but the Wild would get on the board first as Farell would carry the puck in and fire a lazer into the top corner for a 1-0 Wild lead.

The Wild would keep coming and and would pounce again with just 1 minute left in the period as Cohoon would battle the puck loose behind the net and send a beauty pass out front to Mitchell who would one-time it home to give the Wild a 2-0 lead heading into the 2nd.

The Hornets would not back down however as they came on hard in the 2nd.  Pardy would make a ton of nice saves to hold the Hornets off the board until about the 4 minute mark when they would get loose on a breakaway and make a nifty deke to beat Pardy on the glove side to narrow the Wild lead to 2-1 heading into the 3rd.

The 3rd was very intense as both teams battled hard with a ton of speed and skill.  But it was the Wild who would get the break they needed 1 minute in as Lo Presti would send a shot in from the blue line that would catch the Hornets goalie napping to give the Wild a 3-1 lead.

The Hornets would increase their tempo as they tried disparately to get back into the game. Pardy made several nice stops while the Wild defense held on strong but at the 7 minute mark the Hornets would get one back. Despite some hard checking, the Hornets ace #11 managed to get through with some exceptional speed to get in alone and make a tremendous deke to get one past Pardy to narrow the lead to 3-2. But that was as close as they would get as Pardy and the Wild defense would shut them down to preserve the victory.

In Game #3 the Wild would take on a team from Prince Edward County for a shot at 1st place in our Pool.

Once again the Wild would take control early getting lots of chances down low and creating chaos in the PEC end. The Wild would finally put one in with just under 3 minutes left in the period as Birchard would lift one up over the PEC netminder after a flurry of activity in front to take the 1-0 lead.

In the 2nd the Wild kept coming and would strike again 4 minutes in as Payne made some great moves to get the puck into the PEC end and made a great play that was finished off by Lo Presti who was going hard to the net on the play as the Wild took a commanding 2-0 lead.

The Wild would not let off the gas as they would strike yet again 2 minutes later, This time it was Lo Presti making some insane moves to get in all alone and snipe it home for a 3-0 lead.

PEC would get a break with just 45 seconds left in the period as they would get in all alone on a breakaway and sneak one past Pardy to narrow the lead to 3-1.

But that’s all PEC could muster against our strong defense as the Wild would cruise to the victory. Marshall would lock it up for good with 5 minutes left holding off 2 defenders while he made a magnificent rush and completely undressed the PEC net-minder with a beauty deke to secure the 4-1 win.

With the win the Wild moved into a tie for 1st place in the Pool but unfortunately Penalty minutes was the ultimate tie-breaker which we had more of by a significant margin. What can we say our Wild have a nasty side!

As a result, the Wild would meet up against another Prince Edward County squad in the Semi-Finals. The PEC #2 team had managed to squeak into the Semi-Finals on the strength of their goalie as they had scored just 4 goals in the first 3 games while their goalie secured their spot with 2 shut-outs.

Despite PEC having a young Dominik Hasek in net, the Wild had their own Ace in the hole in Mason Pardy who was also having an incredible tournament. The match-up would bring back memories of the 98 Olympics between Canada and the Czech Republic only this time our version of Patrick Roy would come out on top!

The PEC squad would get the first one though just 1 minute in as they would send a long shot in that would somehow find its way through several bodies to find the back of the net as the Wild found themselves down early 1-0.

But the Wild would just came on stronger as they would dominate the rest of the period and would finally get one past the PEC net-minder with just 1.5 seconds left in the period. Adomeit would get alone and fire an absolute cannon that would cleanly beat the star goalie into top of the net.

The Wild kept coming on hard in the 2nd and would strike again 2 minutes in as Farell would fire a beauty from just outside the hashmarks and slip it through the 5-hole for a 2-1 Wild lead.

The Wild would lock it up in the 3rd as Lo Presti would strike again banging home a nice feed from behind the net with just 2 minutes left as the Wild would secure their spot in the Finals with an impressive 3-1 victory.

The win would send the Wild to the Championship game where they would draw a rematch with the Norwood Hornets White squad.

This game was a back and forth affair with several nice chances by each side. The Wild would get on the board first on a beauty end to end rush by Marshall finished with a nice deke to take a 1-0 lead early in the 1st.

The score would remain 1-0 until early in the 2nd when the Hornets sniper #11 got loose on a breakaway. He appeared to have lost control for a second or two but was able to regain control and made a nice 360 degree spin-o-rama move and fired a shot that tricked Pardy to tie the game at 1-1.

That was all either team could do on the scoring front as both goalies put on a clinic with some big saves.

The game would end in a 1-1 tie resulting in a thrilling 4 on 4 overtime period. The Wild battled hard but unfortunately took a tough penalty mid-way through the over time and were forced to play 4 on 3 for the remainder of the overtime frame.

The Hornets would get the break they needed on the Power Play as once again it was #11 who intercepted as Wild pass at the blue line and turned on the jets to get in all alone with just over 1 minute remaining in the OT. Mason Pardy stopped him with a highlight reel save but the Hornets were able to recover the rebound from the corner and fired it just past Pardy’s pad for the overtime win. A tough loss for the Wild who had played a fantastic game and really deserved the Gold.

But the Wild can hold their heads high coming home as Silver Medalists against a lot of high quality teams.

The Wild would finish with an impressive 4 wins and 1 overtime loss on the tournament.

Mason Pardy won the player of the game for the Wild in the final game and was in my mind the best goalie at the tournament with 5 spectacular games.

It may sound like a broken record, but once again our defense of Marshall, Totton, Wilson, Haecker and Underwood showed why they should be considered one of the very best in the league.

All three forward lines battled hard in all 5 games. Lo Presti, Payne, Adomeit and Farell all had several nice rushes and created a lot of scoring chances in all 5 games.

Mitchell, Birchard and Cohoon showed a ton of hussle and grit while also putting a lot of pressure on the opposing defense.

Beattie played exceptionally well all tournament carrying the puck into the opposition end and creating a lot of traffic in front of the opposition’s net.

Parry played the best we have seen from him this year, going hard to the net and coming very close to getting his first goal of the season. He would get a couple assists in the tournament and showed some nice effort on the forecheck.

And of course Pardy was a rock in the Wild net giving up just 7 goals in 5 games while facing a ton of shots.

If they didn’t know who Brock was at the start of the tournament, they sure do now.

Great work by everyone and a big congratulations on bringing home the Silver. You have made Brock very proud!!

The Wild will now face a big test tonight as they take on the #1 seeded Manvers Mustangs in Beaverton at 6:30pm.

Let’s go Wild!
