Wild Put Up a Good Fight but Come up Short vs #1 Team in League!
The Brock Wild Green team have had some really close battles over the past few games and Tuesday night was no exception.

On the road against the #1 ranked Mariposa Lightning the boys were in tough as they tried to come out of their current 3 game losing streak. Mariposa came into the night comfortably in 1st place overall with a 10-1-1 record.

The first period did not start out well for the Wild as the Lightning jumped to an early 2-0 lead just 2 minutes into the game. Watt made the first saves but the Lightning were quick to pounce on the rebound as they quickly jumped out ahead.

After giving up the 2nd goal, the Wild roared back to life and outplayed the Lightning the rest of the way.

The Wild went on the attack and came very close but just could not find the back of the net as they found themselves down 2-0 going into the 2nd.

In the 2nd period Watt made several nice saves to keep the score within reach as the Wild tried to mount the comeback, but the Lightning would strike with 4 minutes left on a hard shot of the inside post and in to give them a huge 3-0 lead.

The Wild kept battling though showing a ton of heart and grit and would finally be rewarded with less than 1 minute to go in the period.

Oke would get in alone and fire a hard shot of the pads and then pick up his own rebound and fire it just over the Lightning net-minder to close the gap to 3-1 heading into the 3rd.

The Wild continued to attack hard in the 3rd but just could not get the puck to go in as they had to settle for a tough 3-1 loss.

Despite the result on the scoreboard, this was a great game and the best all-around performance we have seen from the Wild this season.

Watt was a beast in the Wild net overcoming 2 early goals and making save after save the rest of the way to give the Wild a chance. He was virtually unstoppable in the 2nd and 3rd periods despite several high quality shots from the Lightning.

Our defense of Underwood, Harder, Hunt and Francis showed a lot of hussle getting back and breaking up plays. They also played a tough game in the offensive zone to keep the puck in and allow our forwards to put pressure on the Lightning defense.

Our forwards were gritty and showed a lot of speed with every shift. Bugg and Oke did a great job controlling the play down low and created a ton of great scoring chances while also coming back hard on the backcheck.

Housser and Parry made a lot of nice passing plays and both had some very close chances to score while playing a gritty game on the boards and in the corners.

Malcolm was on fire making several nice rushes and also showing some really nice hussle to put pressure on the Lightning defensemen.

Geissberger continues to show a ton of improvement with every game as he battled hard at our blue line to put the puck out of our zone and went to the net hard in the offensive zone nearly getting his first goal in the process.

Kirkhner moved from his usual defense position up to forward for the first time this season and did a great job at both ends of the rink.

An awesome effort by all against our toughest opponent this season.

The Wild will now enjoy a break in the regular season schedule as they gear up for the Hespeler Classic Tournament November 30th to December 2nd.

With an effort like we saw tonight, there is no doubt we will turn some heads and make all of Brock very proud!

Keep up the good work boys! Go Wild!
