Wild Put Up a Good Fight but Fall to #1 Ranked Millbrook Stars!
Coming off a tough 7-2 loss to the Lindsay Huskies last weekend, the Wild were on the road again against the 1st place Millbrook Stars this past weekend.

The Wild were in tough as the Stars came into the game undefeated while averaging more than 7 goals per game.

The Stars came out hard at us in the early going generating a lot of high quality chances but Half-Price (Parry) made some great saves to keep the Stars off the board. The Stars would get one midway through the period putting one just over the blocker to secure a 1-0 lead.

The Wild would battle back hard in the 2nd half of the period creating some nice chances of our own but just could not bury our chances as we headed into the 2nd period down 1-0.

In the 2nd period, the Wild would continue to battle hard and would be rewarded 3 minutes in as Crusty (Cresanto) would take a nice feed from Lyncher and Kirky and hammer one home to tie the game at 1. It was the first of many goals to come for Crusty in his young career.

The Stars would come right back at us in the 2nd half of the period. Half-Price made some nice saves but the Stars were able to jam in the rebounds for 2 late goals to take a 3-1 lead going into the 3rd.

The 3rd was a see-saw battle with both teams getting some nice chances and both goalies being forced to make some big saves as the game remained 3-1 until the final minutes of the game when the Stars would get 2 quick goals to secure the 5-1 win.

It was a great effort by our squad against the top team in the league as we pushed them hard for 30 minutes.

Even though we came out on the wrong side of the scoreboard the team played its best game of the season so far.

Our forwards showed a lot of grit and hussle at both ends of the rink. Vonzi (Jayvon), Slammer, and Crusty made some great rushes and created a lot of offense down low while Pulley, Powsy, Wild Bill (Lehman) and Payner all battled hard every shift and did a great job battling along the boards.

Our defense was also solid and did a good job of blocking shots and clearing the defensive zone. Kirky, Lyncher, Nater and Reesor continued their strong play while Hudsy also had a solid showing in his first game playing defense.

Half Price faced a lot of rubber in the game and did a great job battling to find loose pucks in the crease and made some big time saves to keep the game within reach.

Overall a great effort against a very strong opponent. There is no doubt that this work ethic will result in quite a few wins as the season progresses. Each player has shown dramatic improvement is just a few short weeks since the beginning of the season.

Keep up the hard work Wild. The wins will come. Next up is another tough challenge as we head to the road again against the always tough Durham Crusaders. Let’s go Wild!!
