Wild Hold off Stars for a Tie!
The Brock Wild took on the Millbrook Stars on Thursday night in a battle of 2 teams trying to make a move in the standings.

The Wild were in tough as they came into the game missing 3 of their key players in Lyncher, Mason and Watsy.

The first period would not start off very well for the Wild as the Stars would go on the attack early and take an early 1-0 lead just 1 minute into the game. The Stars winger would go hard to the net where Half-Price made a couple nice saves but the Stars banged away at the rebounds and managed to jam it in on the 3rd try.

The Wild would respond however late in the period as Kirky got loose on a breakaway after a nice pass from Reesor and fire one past the Stars net-minder to even the score at 1 heading into the 2nd.

The Stars would come at us hard in the 2nd with a lot of close scoring chances but Half-Price was a a rock in net making some beauty saves including a big glove save from his backside to keep the game tied.

Then late in the period the Wild would strike. Payner made a nice outlet pass to Vonzi would break loose on a breakaway and put one over the shoulder of the Stars net-minder to give the Wild a 2-1 lead to end the 2nd period.

The Stars kept coming at us. Early in the 3rd they would get the equalizer as they would get a shot through a maze of players in front of Half-Price a squeak one into the corner of the net to even the game a 2-2.

The rest of the 3rd period was evenly matched as both teams would exchange scoring chances but both goalies made some big saves to keep the score tied. The Wild thought they had the go ahead marker midway through the period but were robbed by a sensational save from the Stars goalie after a huge one-timer in front.

Then with just over a minute left, the Stars appeared to have a clear breakaway but Reesor came back out of nowhere to stop the Stars forward. Reesor was assessed a hooking penalty on the play but it prevented the Stars from getting a clear shot on goal.

The Stars pushed hard in the final minute with their number one power play unit on the ice but our defense held on for the final seconds as the teams skated to a hard fought 2-2 tie.

With points being hard to come by this season, this was a great effort by the Wild. Every player worked hard and played aggressively to preserve the point.

Vonzi was on fire with several big rushes and was rewarded with a nice goal.

Powsy and Wild Bill generated some nice scoring chances in the offensive zone.

Kirky played a strong 2 way game and had some nice rushes including a big goal.

James played by far his strongest game of the season, showing some real good hussle and creating a lot of nice scoring chances.

Brennan and the Termi-Nater were a force all night with some hard fore-checking and both did a good job of battling hard along the boards.

Leon was in beast mode for this one. He was battling hard all game long including some strong physical play to show the Stars who was boss. He showed a lot of hussle and created some nice chances in the offensive zone.

Our defense played a strong game as well. Reesor, Pulley, Payner and Mitchell all showed a lot of grit and feistiness battling for the puck in our end.

Half-Price had a rock solid game in goal making some timely saves to preserve the tie.

Overall a great team effort and much deserved point in the standings.

The Wild will get another chance for a big “W” tonight in the rematch with the Stars in Millbrook at 7:00.

Watsy will be back in the line-up tonight and will get the start in goal.

 Let’s go Wild!
