Player Financial Support
No child should be left on the sidelines but in Canada 1 in 3 families cannot afford to enroll their child in organized sports. That’s almost 750,000 children every year who want to play, but just can’t. The organizations listed below help to change that.
Jumpstart:
Criteria for Jumpstart assistance includes the following:
- Child must be between the ages of 4 and 18
- Funding must be for a program involving sport or physical activity
- Your family must be in financial need as defined by Government guidelines

KidSport Ontario:
Together with our network of 18 local chapters, KidSport Ontario provides grants to help cover the costs of enrolment so that all kids aged 18 and under in Ontario can play a season of sport. For more information about KidSport Ontario please see their website HERE.

Their Opportunity:
To provide low-income families with the means to enroll their children in local sports and recreational programs. By alleviating the financial costs of enrollment fees, children can develop the confidence, social skills and healthy lifestyles attainable through sport. Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund:
The Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund supported more than 2300 kids with hockey registration fees during the 2022-23 season, including 900+ players from the BIPOC community. For more information about the Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund please see their website HERE.

BMHA Hockey Opportunity Fund (New for 2023/24):
This fund was created by the Brock Minor Hockey Association, to help bridge the funding gap between grant money and your personal finances, to help cover BMHA hockey-related fees. We want ALL kids who wish to play hockey, to have the opportunity to do so.
Note: the BMHA WILL consider requests to support more than one child per household.
i) Applicants must FIRST apply to (and receive a response from) AT LEAST ONE of the above-mentioned youth in sport grant opportunities (which require NOA and/or Child Tax Benefit information).
ii) Applicant must be registered with Brock Minor Hockey for the current season.
iii) Applicant must live within the Brock Minor Hockey boundaries .
iv) Applicant must be willing to provide a non-identifying description of the financial barriers this player/family faces (*real names will only be disclosed to the BMHA president, treasurer and registrar, and will be kept absolutely confidential from donors, the BMHA executive, and the public).
