Police Vulnerable Sector Checks
A Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) is required of all rostered team officials (i.e. coaches, trainers, managers, etc.) and all other team volunteers who engage in on-ice activities.
If a team official’s gender and date of birth matches someone in the DRPS/RCMP database, he/she will be fingerprinted to process the PVSC.
PVSC processing can take up to two months and a team official cannot be rostered until the PVSC is completed—start the process early!
2024 PVSC UPDATE - NEW PROCESS
OMHA has CLEARED ALL Background Checks in HCR Spordle as of Spring 2024, which means everyone MUST re-do this process through OHF this season (even if you went through the process within the last year).
Details on the new OHF Vulnerable Sector Check Screening Process can be found
HERE.
This process includes completing an online form, uploading a copy of your
completed VSC (PDF), as well as a signed copy of your OHF Screening Declaration Form (PDF)
. You can find a blank copy of the OHF Screening Declaration Form
HERE.
Please note that if you have completed your VSC within the last 3 years you can use it when working through this process as they are valid for 3 seasons after issued, expiring August 31st. For example, a PVSC issued on August 31, 2024, December 31, 2024, or February 15, 2025 will all expire on August 31, 2027.
PVSC Deadline
-
Rep. B team bench staff must have an up-to-date PVSC approved by OHF and showing in their Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) account before they can be rostered (and be present on the bench).
-
Local league bench staff must have an up-to-date PVSC approved by OHF and showing in their Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) account no later than November 1st.
Reimbursement of PVSC Fee
The Brock Minor Hockey Association covers the cost of PVSC for all rostered bench staff. Contact the Treasurer for more information

How to Obtain a PVSC
Durham Region Residents
-
Use the OHF Letter Requesting Vulnerable Sector Check (found
HERE)
which identifies you as a volunteer for Brock Minor Hockey Association and allows the Durham Regional Police (DRPS) to charge you at the volunteer rate.
-
Apply for a PVSC online via the Durham Regional Police website. Note this is NOT done in person anymore, the link to DRPS Online Request is found
HERE.
- DRPS will send out your PVSC in the mail once completed.
Volunteers Residing Outside of Durham Region
If you live outside of Durham Region, you must apply for a PVSC with the Police Service for the region where you reside (Note: some regions require you to use the Ontario Provincial Police Services, but the process varies, depending on where you live. Please be sure you are using the correct Police Service as to not slow down the approval process.)
OHF Screening Process/Submission
Once you have received your PVSC in the mail, it must be uploaded to the OHF Screening Submission Portal (Follow the process outlined above under "2024 PVSC UPDATE - NEW PROCESS").
Please contact our Registrar, Karen Gillespie (
[email protected]), if you have any questions.
