Atom Green Pick up a Split in Busy Weekend!
The Brock Wild Green team played 2 games on the weekend and came out with a win and a loss in 2 hard fought contests.

On Saturday the Wild were home to the Manvers Mustangs.

The boys came out a little sluggish in the 1st as Manvers came on hard out of the gate to secure a quick 2-0 lead just after just 3 minutes of play.

The Mustangs showed a lot of speed and could have padded their lead even more if not for some goaltending heroics from Oke to keep the score at 2-0 after 1.

The 2nd period was a much closer battle as the Wild started to gain momentum and got some nice chances but could not get the shots through the tight Mustangs defense. Oke continued to make some stellar saves at our end while our defense held strong to clear the rebounds and move the puck out of our end.

In the 3rd the Wild continued to try to mount a comeback but the Manvers defense held us in tight check limiting the number of shots on the Mustangs net-minder.

Despite a strong effort the boys just could not get one. The Mustangs would add the decisive blow with just 14 seconds left on the clock as they finally beat Oke with a high blast to the top corner as they secured the 3-0 victory.

The next day the Wild were at it again this time against the Durham Crusaders.

Learning from their slow start the day before, the Wild came out on fire in the first as Oke would break in all alone just 10 seconds in to fire a high back-hander into the top of the net for an early 1-0 lead.

The Wild would continue to get chances but the Crusaders net-minder made some nice saves to keep the score close.

The Crusaders would fight back hard late in the period. After several nice saves by Watt the Crusaders would get one past him with just 3 minutes left in the period.

In the 2nd the Crusaders came on strong with several flurries deep in the Wild zone. Watt held the fort during a lengthy scramble in front of the Wild net before the Crusaders managed to jam one in to take a 2-1 lead.

The Wild would battle right back late in the period as Oke would get in alone again. This time he was stopped on his first attempt but battled hard to jam in his own rebound and tie the game up at 2 to end the 2nd period.

The Wild would carry the momentum into the 3rd and would be rewarded a few minutes in as Malcolm made a nice pass to Housser who would redirect the pass to the top of the net to give the Wild a big 3-2 lead.

But the Crusaders kept coming and would tie it up again 3 minutes later putting one just over the outstretched pad of Watt.

The game would remain tied until the last minute as Oke would break through 2 defenders shorthanded and make a beauty deke for his 3rd of the game to put the Wild ahead once again.

This time the lead would hold as the Wild would come out on top 4-3!

An overall great weekend for the Wild.

Our defense of Underwood, Harder, Kirkhner and Francis were rock solid in both games showing a lot of grit and hussle to make some great defensive plays while also doing a good job of moving the puck up to the forwards out of our end.

Bugg and Housser both had a strong weekend down the middle showing some good back checking and battling hard deep in the offensive zone.

Oke and Watt were both stellar in goal making several big-time saves.

Malcolm, Parry, Hunt and Geissberger did a good job of chipping the puck out of our end and going to the net to create some nice scoring chances.

Good work by everyone!

The Wild have another busy week ahead as they take on 2 teams tied for 1st place overall. Friday and Saturday the boys will take on the Mariposa Blue in a home and home series and then travel to Millbrook on Sunday to take on the Stars. The Wild hope to join the logjam at the top of the standings with some big wins.

Let’s go boys!
