Ka-Pow! Wild Overpower the Lightning!
Coming off a great weekend at St. Jacobs, the Wild were back at it again on Thursday night taking on the hungry Mariposa Lightning.

The Wild came out hard in this one scoring just 2 minutes in. Kirky would go end to end and finish with a beauty into the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead.

Just 1 minute later the Wild would strike again! This time it was Powsey jumping on a Vonzie rebound to hammer in his 1st goal of the season.

The Lightning would strike back a minute later. Half-price made the initial save but the puck would bounce right back to the Lightning attacker who would somehow sneak it in between the pads and the post to narrow the Wild lead to 2-1.

But the Wild were on a mission in this one. Just 1 minute later Powsey would strike again. This time he would once again go to the net hard and bang in the rebound on Crusty’s low wrister after some nice work by Reesor to keep the puck in the Lightning zone. The 2 goal lead would hold for the remainder of the period as the Wild continued to mount pressure on the Lightning defense.

In the 2nd period the Wild would continue to attack and would be rewarded.

Once again it was Powsey walking in all alone and making a great move to deke out the Lightning net-minder for his 3rd goal of the game to put the home crowd into a frenzy and give the Wild a commanding 4-1 lead!

In the 3rd period the Wild continued their assault. Midway through the period Powsey would put the exclamation point on his career game putting home his 4th of the night. Payner would make a nice pass over to Crusty who would fire a hard shot off the pads of the Lightning net-minder. The puck would find its way to the side of the net where Powsey fired it back from a sharp angle and into the back of the net to extend the Wild lead to 5-1!

With the lead safely in hand, the Wild would let off the gas in the 2nd half of the period allowing the Lightning to get 2 quick goals late in the period to narrow the Wild lead to 5-3. In both cases Half-price made the first saves but the Lightning battled hard to get the rebounds.

The comeback attempt would be in vain though as the Wild would hold on for a solid 5-3 victory.

A great team effort by all.

Pulley, playing in her first game on defense did a stand-up job as she battled hard and broke up some nice plays.

The defensive trio of Kirky, Lyncher and Reesor continued their consistently strong play and made some nice rushes out of our end.

Vonzie, Slammer and Crusty did a great job down the middle for the Wild showing a lot of firepower down low and creating a lot of high quality scoring chances.

Payner and Termi-Nater were a force all night showing a lot of grit in the corners and both battling hard along the boards.

Hudsy had another strong showing up front and had some nice scoring opportunities that just couldn’t find the back of the net.

Half-Price made some nice saves on the night and continues to be consistently solid in the Wild net.

And then there was Powsey! Whatever he had for dinner tonight sure worked as he was on fire from the very start. Coming into the night looking for his 1st career goal he exploded for 4! Ka-Pow!!!

Awesome work everyone! Next up is the Woodville Hurricanes on Saturday. Let’s keep the win streak alive. Go Wild Go!
