Wild Win!! Wild Win!! Tykes Run Wild in Victory Over Mariposa!!
After continuing to see improvement over a series of tough losses this year, the hard work and commitment finally paid off as the Brock Wild earned their first victory of the year in a hard fought battle over the Mariposa Lightning!

The Wild came out on fire in this one as they controlled the play and put constant pressure on the Mariposa defenders for most of the 1st period.

The Wild battled hard in the Mariposa end never letting the Lightning out of their end and were rewarded at the 4 minute mark as Kaiden Smith would put the Wild on the board with a great shot that cleanly beat the Mariposa net-minder to give the Wild their first goal in 4 games.

Mariposa got loose a minute later as their leading scorer broke in on a breakaway and snuck one in on the glove side past Blake Brock to tie the game at 1 as we headed into the 2nd.

Mariposa started to put some pressure on in the 2nd but the Wild came to win on this night and battled them hard every time they touched the puck.

4 minutes into the period the Wild would strike again. Once again it was Kaiden Smith as he outraced 2 Lightning defenders to the loose puck and banged it in off the goalie from behind the red line to give the Wild a 2-1 lead!

The Lightning tried to get it back but were stopped by Blake on several nice scoring attempts including a couple breakaways.

The Wild would keep battling and would be rewarded again with 2 minutes to go in the period as John Malcolm broke in alone and let loose a cannon that sailed past the Lightning net-minder to give the Wild a commanding 3-1 lead as we headed into the 3rd and final period.

In the 3rd the Lightning came on strong and would get one back just 2 minutes in as their lucky number 7 got in alone and put one into the top corner to lower the lead to just one goal.

The Lightning continued to battle us hard us hard and got some nice shots off but Blake was solid in net and would not let anything past him.

With the Lightning pressing hard the Wild increased their intensity yet another notch and would strike again late in period. Nathan Giles battled the puck loose along the boards and pushed it to Mason Stewart who would send the puck out front where it was redirected into the net by Kaiden Smith to earn the first hat trick of his young career!! And the Wild lead by 2 with just 3 minutes left!!

The last few minutes were intense as the Lightning tried to battle back, but the Wild would not let up and stopped the Lighting before they could get anything going.

The Lightning would try to pull the goalie in the final minute but failed miserably as they sent on the extra attacker before the goalie came to the bench resulting in a too many men on the ice penalty with less than 1 minute to go.

The Lightning would leave the net empty with the hopes of getting off a shot but the Wild were too strong on this night as they cleared the zone and put the game away for a very impressive and long awaited 4-2 victory!!

Every player on the team had by far their best games of the season.

Kaiden Smith got the hat-trick while the forwards were explosive all night long putting pressure on the Mariposa defense and creating all kinds of havoc in the Mariposa end.

All 3 lines were on fire. The first line of Eric Parry, Mason Stewart and Nathan Giles were relentless in their pursuit of the puck and did a great job on the both the fore-check and on the back-check.

The second line of Kael Cresanto, Rhys Benge and Camden Slama was equally impressive with fierce battles along the boards and some great pressure down low.

The 3rd line of Bradley Pearce, John Malcolm and Karsyn Payne showed great hussle all night long beating their opponents to the puck and creating lots of scoring chances including the game-winner from Malcolm.

Our defense consisting of Ethan Kirkos, Kaiden Smith, Colin Lynch and Borden Davidson were incredible shutting down the Lightning attackers and keeping the number of shots against low. They were ferocious in their own zone and showed a lot of grit and determination to win the battles in the corner and clear the puck from our zone.

When the Lightning did get through our stingy defense, Blake Brock was there to make the save and keep the Wild ahead. Blake was awarded the Ferell Player of the game as he made several key saves, especially in the 3rd with the Wild nursing a 1 goal lead.

A fantastic effort by every player and a very well deserved win!

All season long we have talked about how much this team has improved and it truly showed on this night. The 2nd game of the season, this same team defeated us by a 7-2 margin. Now just a few months later we come out on top. And unlike a lot of other teams in the league, we did it with a full team effort. We are a team with no superstars but a great collection of hard-working players and a ton of heart.

The team is truly coming together just in time for the upcoming tournaments and playoffs! If we play like we did last night I have no doubt we will be a force to be reckoned with in the Playoffs!!

Excellent work everyone!! We are all very proud of you!

Next up is the always tough Woodville Hurricanes on Sunday in Woodville. Eric Parry will get the start in goal. Let’s keep up the great work and give the Hurricanes all they can handle this weekend!!

Let’s go Wild!!!
