The Atom Reds coming off a big win over Lindsay Teal the
night before, were right back on the road to Oshawa Wednesday night to battle
against the dreaded Durham Crusaders!
The Crusaders were coming of an 11-2 beating at the hands of
Lindsay White and were looking to bounce back with a strong game against our
Wild but could not handle our Reds as we cruised to a 6-2 victory!
The Crusaders came out strong getting the early lead on a top shelf laser that eluded Pardy as our Wild found themselves down 1-0 just 2 minutes into the opening period.
But the Wild came right back just 2 minutes later as Payne would scoop on a rebound and hammer it home to tie the game at 1.
Just 1 minute later the Wild would strike again. This time it was Farell getting off a nice shot that just got through the Crusaders net-minder to give the Wild a 2-1 lead after 1 period of play.
The Crusaders came back hard in the 2nd and would strike just 2 minutes in as a hard wrister would find its way past Pardy to once again tie the game at 2-2.
But just 30 seconds later Marshall would go end to end and flip one just over the shoulder of the Crusaders goalie to regain the 1 goal lead. Marshall would make another nice end to end beauty with just over 1 minute to go in the period to extend the Wild lead to 4-2 heading into the 3rd.
In the 3rd period it was all Wild! The Wild would control the play for most of the period.
The Wild would be rewarded 3 minutes in as Farell would pound one home after a flurry of activity in front of the Durham net, giving the Wild a commanding 5-2 lead.
Payne would put the exclamation mark on the victory with a magnificent rush ending with a beauty deke to seal the 6-2 Wild victory!
This was a full team effort with every player contributing.
Marshall, Totton, Underwood, Haecker and Wilson continued their strong defensive play while Pardy was solid as usual in the Wild net making some really nice saves throughout.
Farell and Payne each made a lot of nice rushes and each would have 2 goals on the night.
Lo Presti, Cohoon and Mitchell were also buzzing all game with several nice scoring chances.
Beattie battled hard in front of the Durham net and came very close to getting his first of the season on a few close chances.
Parry made some nice defensive plays and also got a couple nice chances in close.
Adomeit continued his strong play, creating a lot of offense with some very nice passes and also made several nice defensive plays coming back hard on the back-check.
Birchard had a solid game as well providing a lot of hussel in the Durham end and putting a lot of pressure on the Durham defense.
Overall a great game played by all!
