Brock Wild Take Round 1 In The Battle of The Greens
Fresh off a 5-0 shut-out of the Coyotes two nights earlier, the Wild Green squad continued their stellar defensive play with a 5-3 win over the Crusaders Green.
Brock started early with Jacob Archambault burying a pass from Travis Yake just 2 minutes in. Just 3 minutes later, the defence pairing of Colton Houser and Ethan Brennan-Sherwood teamed up to double the lead with Ethan tallying his first of 2. After allowing our opponents back in the game with a goal before the end of the first period, the teams each scored once in the second. The Brock goal was scored by Charlie Dowswell with a bullet shot from the blue line that found its way through a maze of players in front of the net. Marcus Howell earned the assist with a great faceoff win.
Leading 3-2 heading into the final period, Brock turned up the pressure on the opponent. Just 2 minutes in, Ethan Brennan-Sherwood notched his second of the game on a Super-Mario-like (Lemieux not Bros.) end to end rush. Brocks 5th goal was also a great shot from yet another of the defence corps with Hayden Hine taking a pass from Charlie Dowswell before firing a well placed shot behind the Crusaders netminder. Although Durham was able to get one more past Liam Flood, the game ended in a well earned 5-3 win.
Outstanding plays were made by the entire defence - scoring 4 of the 5 goals as well as many great saves from Liam Flood to earn the win. Although not making it on the scoresheet, Dax Giguere showed outstanding positional play, at times smothering his opponent.
Player of the game honours went to Kale Oldham who was rock solid on defence at both ends of the ice.
