Atom Reds Have Competitive Showing at Paisley Tourament!
Last weekend the Brock Wild Red team travelled to Paisley for a 2 day tournament. In the first game the Wild took on the host squad from Paisley.

The Wild came out on fire in this one as the defense made a nice breakout pass to Farell who took off past the Paisley defenders and put one through the 5 hole to put the Wild on the board 1-0.

A few minutes later the Wild would strike again. This time it was Lo Presti winning the face off and then firing a low wrister into the low corner after a great 2nd effort to get control of the puck despite fending off 2 Paisley defenders.

The Wild would continue to attack deep in the Paisley zone. Totton kept the puck in at the Paisley blue line and then fired a blast from the point to give the Wild a 3-0 lead!

Paisley would get one back a few minutes later with a beauty shot that went off the post and in to narrow the lead to 3-1 but the Wild would bounce right back as Adomeit would take the puck behind the Paisley net and make a nice wraparound to tuck it in and regain the 3 goal lead ending the 1st period up 4-1.

The Wild continued to attack in the 2nd and would add another late in the period as Payne let loose a dandy shot from in close to extend the lead to 5-1.

In the 3rd period Paisley started to put more pressure on the Wild but Pardy was there to make several beauty saves and keep them off the board.

Midway through the period the Wild would get an unlucky break as Paisley would somehow get one barely over the line to reduce the lead to 5-2.

The comeback bid would end there though as Lo Presti would add his 2nd of the day fighting off 2 Paisley defenders to get the shot off and past the Paisley net-minder to cap a 6-2 victory for the Wild.

Payne was awarded player of the game for Brock as he had several high quality chances and made several nice plays throughout the game.

The win would send the Wild to the “A” division semi-finals the next day.

For the remainder of the day, the Wild would spend the afternoon swimming in the indoor pool, playing mini-sticks and eating a lot of “quality” food. Later in the evening the Wild would attend an OHL game between the Owen Sound Attack and the Sudbury Wolves making for a fun filled evening for everyone.

The next morning, we were back on the ice again this time against a big team from Shallow Lake.

The game started out OK with Totton getting her second of the tournament on a hard shot from the point to take an early 1-0 lead.

But then the late night hangover from Saturday began to set in as Shallow Lake started to mount an aggressive attack that our Wild were just not able to match as we allowed 5 unanswered goals in the period leaving us in a deep hole to start the 2nd. If not for some big saves from Pardy the score could have really got out of hand.

Shallow Lake would add 2 more early in the second as we found ourselves down 7-1 early in the 2nd period.

But the Wild we all know, would finally get their second wind midway way through the 2nd as they tried to mount a comeback.

Unfortunately, luck was not on our side as several undeserved penalties were called against our squad hurting our chances to get back into the game.

Despite the calls, Farell and Adomeit would each get a shorthanded goal and Lo Presti would add another late to close the gap to 7-4. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Wild would get falling 7-4 and ending our tournament.

Pardy made several nice saves to keep the score close but the early deficit was just too much to overcome. Pardy would be awarded as Wild player of the game for his effort.

Despite the end result every player can be proud of how hard we played. Even in the last game, down 7-1 the players continued to work hard and never threw in the towel.

In addition to the work of our great goalie and our many goal scorers every player on the team contributed.

Marshall, Haecker, Wilson and Underwood along with our newest sniper Totton were solid on defense keeping the puck in and breaking up breakaways.

While Farell, Adomeit, Payne and Lo Presti provided the scoring among our forwards, Parry, Mitchell, Cohoon, Beattie and Birchard all played very well with aggressive checking at both ends of the rink.

Overall a fun filled weekend for all. Good work Wild!
