Atom Reds Earn Solid Win Over Sturgeon Thunder!
On Tuesday night the Brock Wild hosted the mighty Sturgeon Thunder. After dropping our last 2 contests the Wild were on a mission to right the ship on Tuesday night.

Right from the opening faceoff the Wild came out strong with intense pressure in the Thunder zone. The Thunder goalie was looking sharp making some nice saves until Payne finally solved him with a beautiful deke with 4 minutes left in the period to give the Wild a 1-0 lead.

Just 2 minutes later Payne would strike again with a beauty shot just over the shoulder of the Thunder net-minder to extend the lead to 2-0. Payne had a great night as he would later add an assist and made some excellent stops on the back-check.

The Wild kept coming and would add one more late in the period. This time it was Farell blasting the puck from just inside the hash-marks after receiving a nice pass from Adomeit to give the Wild a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the 2nd.

In the 2nd the Thunder started to mount pressure. Beattie battling hard for the puck was called for a penalty early in the period on a questionable call leading to a Thunder power play. The Thunder would capitalize on the opportunity as they would sneak one past Pardy to narrow the lead to 3-1.

But that’s as close as they would get as the Wild defense and the strong goal-tending of Pardy were just too much for the Thunder to overcome. Later in the period Farell would make a beautiful pass to Adomeit who would tap it in to regain the 3 goal lead to end the 2nd with the Wild up 4-1.

The 3rd was dominated by the Wild as they pounded shots on the Thunder goalie and would finally add one more goal midway through the period on a nice shot by Farell after receiving a nice pass from Payne.

The Thunder would try to fight back late in the period but Pardy turned them away with some nice saves to preserve the 5-1 victory.

This was a great team effort with every player contributing to the end result.

The Defense of Marshall, Cotton, Wilson, Haecker and Underwood were dominating in this one keeping the shots to a minimum and making beauty passes out of our zone.

Missing one of our key forwards in Cohoon, the rest of the Wild forwards really stepped it up in his absence.

Payne, Farell and Adomeit provided the scoring for the Wild, while Lo Presti and Birchard made several nice rushes and got several quality scoring chances.

Mitchell and Beattie battled hard along the boards all night digging out loose pucks and creating scoring chances while both doing as excellent job on the back-check.

Player of the Game honors went to William Parry who played his best game of the season showing great hussle all game long including a couple nice shot blocks and some hard checking in front of the Thunder goal. He also endured some battle scars along the way taking a high stick to the neck but battled back like a Wild Warrior.

Pardy was solid in goal making several nice saves.

Great game by everyone!! Next game is scheduled for Tuesday night in Beaverton against the Mariposa Lightning. Let’s go Wild!
